Down coats are the iconic winter warm jacket, renowned for their exceptional warmth and padded, quilted designs. What gives a natural down jacket its incredible insulation power are the soft and fluffy under feathers of ducks and geese. These come from the birds chest, sides and stomach, which they use to keep them warm in wet and cold conditions. Down is incredibly fluffy and this fluffiness, known as loft, creates a series of little air pockets called baffles. These pockets trap and store warm air, creating an effective barrier against the cold. The stitched quilted sections of a feather down jacket are what give it its characteristic puffy look. While down itself is not waterproof, the Omni-Shield™ stain and water repellent technology in our puffer jacket repel water and stains so liquids cannot be absorbed into the fabric.

Fill power is an important feature of a down puffer jacket. It refers to the down quality and can range from 400 to more than 800. It measures the warmth-to-weight ratio of a women’s and men’s coat, essentially the amount of space one ounce of down fills in cubic inches. The higher the fill power, the less down is needed to deliver the same amount of warmth. Therefore, down jackets with high fill power are lighter and more packable than those with the same warmth but low fill power.

The down we use in our kids, women’s and men's jackets are certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). This certifies that our down is sourced from farms that prioritise the welfare of the birds and don’t cause them unnecessary harm, including no force-feeding or live-plucking.

Our range includes a synthetic down jacket with engineered insulation made from polyester fibres to replicate natural down. While synthetic down doesn’t deliver the same exceptional warmth as feather down, it does fare better in wet weather. Unlike natural down, which clumps when wet and stops insulating, synthetic insulation will continue to keep you warm. This makes synthetic insulation a better choice if you want a waterproof jacket.

They are often made out of down (instead of synthetic insulation) as this type of insulation makes packable and light jackets. When the sun comes back, store your down jacket in your backpack and carry on.

A great bonus of our unisex rainwear is that they are lightweight enough to wear them with other layers on cold hikes like a hooded down jacket or warm jacket. Wear them over a warm parka or extreme cold jacket for winter hikes or pack it away in your back when you don’t need it.

• Light Warmth : A warm jacket in synthetic insulation. It’s right for all classic situations and easily packable in your bag when the sun comes back. The most high-end light warmth jackets will feature thermal reflective technology.

• Warm : These women’s jackets will bring serious heat to the game. They often feature down : The ultimate standard. Add thermal reflective technology in the mix and you have your warm jacket !

• Extremely Warm : Simply the warmest jacket in town. These jackets will feature down added to advanced construction technologies such as Heat Seal Construction.

How to choose your women’s down jackets ?

Women’s down jackets can be insulated with synthetic insulation or down. They are two classical option with down jackets and each of them provide a set of advantages :

•A synthetic insulation jacket will offer a cheaper and more resistant insulation. Typically used in city parka, coats or in entry level mountain jackets, the synthetic insulated jacket does not fear the water, it’s often treated so the rain does not affect its thermal capacity. But synthetic insulated jackets also have a lesser weight to warm ratio : They’re usually less compressible and more importantly, they deliver less warmth to your body.

•A down insulation jacket is the ultimate warmth standard. A down jacket keeps your body warm efficiently and protects you from the cold, all day long. It’s also light and packable, meaning that when the sun comes back, you can put your down jacket in your backpack !

We have designed 3 different levels of waterproofness to keep you sheltered from the rain :

No protection : these jackets offer no protection against the rain. They are solely a thermal layer. These types of women’s down jackets are often extremely light and packable.

•Drizzle. This type of jacket has a light water protection called a water-repellent treatment. This means that the jacket has no waterproof membrane but a surface treatment that helps the water slide on it without penetrating the insulation.

•Rain. An Omni Tech™ waterproof / breathable membrane is here to protect you from the rain. This waterproof membrane is an excellent solution to stay dry in the long run.

•Downpour. It’s an upgraded Omni Tech™ waterproof / breathable membrane with seams fully sealed
