How long do hiking boots last?
It's difficult to say exactly how long trekking shoes should last. It all depends on what they're made from, how frequently you wear them and the types of trails you take them on. For example, leather hiking boots will likely last significantly longer than light hiking shoes due to their more durable construction. And if you prefer walking on firm, soft trails, your footwear will likely have a longer lifespan than if you regularly hike over muddy or rocky terrain. Plus, how well you care for them and how you walk can all impact the longevity of walking shoes. Some hikers suggested their boots last between 500 and 1200 miles. That means walking around 10 miles a week will see your boots lasting between one and two years.
When to replace hiking boots?
Several telltale signs suggest replacing your trusty all-terrain shoes might be time. For example:
Less grippy: Over time, hiking for many miles will inevitably wear down the tread on the soles of your boots. Once worn down, they won't be able to grip surfaces properly, increasing your risk of slipping, falling and hurting yourself. You should look to replace your boots before the soles become too worn down with mountain hiking shoes with Adapt Trax™ outsoles and Omni-Grip™ all-terrain traction technology for exceptional grip in all types of conditions.
Letting in water: Have you noticed your feet and hiking socks feel damp in wet weather or after walking through puddles? Unfortunately, your beloved pair boots have likely come to the end of their life, so it's time to look for a new pair. Look for waterproof shoes for men or women with technologies like Omni-Tech™ and Outdry™. They create an unpenetrable barrier that stops water from getting into the shoe. It also allows moisture to escape so you don't have sweaty, clammy feet at the end of your hike.
- Damaged shoe fabric: Holes, tears or excessively worn-out areas on the fabric or leather can compromise your pair hiking shoes waterproofing, comfort and breathability. It's a sign to invest in new ones.
Frayed laces: Worn, frayed laces often indicate that your footwear is also becoming worn and may need replacing. Also, check the eyelets and lace hoops to see if they are broken. They could prevent you from lacing your winter shoes properly and cause blisters.
Increased discomfort: There's nothing like uncomfortable shoes to spoil a hike. If you start to experience foot, joint, ankle or back pains, blisters or sore areas, it's time to retire your boots. Upgrade to a new pair of comfortable hiking shoes with Techlite+™ foam cushioned midsoles for maximum comfort.
Feel the ground underfoot: Feeling all the trail's stones, lumps and bumps underfoot indicates that your outsole has worn down and your shoes need replacing.
Cracks in the midsole: Is the midsole still providing you the same support as when your mountain shoes were new? Have you noticed any cracks in it? Once the midsole is worn down, it won't provide the support and cushioning you need, especially during longer hikes.
